Railways explores to set up JV nuke plant
The present peak power requirement of Indian Railways is around 4000 mega watt (mw). Preliminary discussions have been held with Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) for exploring the possibility of setting up of a nuclear power plant of 1,400 mw capacity in Joint Venture with them.
625 km double track rail corridor awarded at Rs 6,700 cr
In yet another important development in the implementation of the ambitious Dedicated Freight Corridor Project of Indian Railways, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has awarded a major contract for construction of 625 km of double track corridor from Rewari (Haryana) to Iqbalgarh (Gujrat) via Rajasthan at a cost of about Rs 6,700 crore.

During April-June 2013, Indian Railways have carried 256.79 million tonne of revenue earning freight traffic. The freight carried shows an increase of 11.98 million tonne over the freight traffic of 244.81 million tonne actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.89 per cent.

During April-May 2013, Indian Railways carried 171.91 million tonne of revenue earning freight traffic . The freight carried shows an increase of 7.53 million tonne over the freight traffic of 164.38 million tonne actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.58 per cent.
