The drive for the deployment of solar energy in India has gained further momentum as the Ministry of Shipping has recently announced that it is planning to install 82.64 MW of utility-scale solar power plants at the country´s 12 major ports.

Indian major ports set to install 200 MW renewable projects
In a bid to become self-reliant in energy, the Ministry of Shipping has chalked out plans to install around 200 MW captive (150 MW solar and 50 MW wind) renewable power projects in as many as 11 major ports in India.

Improve logistics in coastal shipping for savings: Study
A study by global consultants McKinsey & Co and AECOM for the Ministry of Shipping says optimising the logistics flow for key commodities by 2025 could save Rs.30,000-40,000 crore. It recommends creation of more capacity at major ports and a logistics aggregator company to consolidate the shipping supply chain.
