Two years after Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), with its consortium partners Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Japanese conglomerate Mitsui, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a regasification liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at New Mangalore Port, the project is again on the back burner.
First cruise vessel at NMPT for season
Cruise vessel MV Insignia called at New Mangalore Port in late September. This is the first cruise vessel which has called at the port in the beginning of the cruise season from September to April.

Record movement of reefer cargo at New Mangalore Port
With the onset of fishing season in the coastal belt, the New Mangalore Port is witnessing a record movement of reefer cargo in containers. The total reefer cargo exported through the port during the first half of the current fiscal year was 1,257 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). In September alone, 442 TEUs of reefer containers stuffed with fish was exported so far.
Boost to liquid cargo capacity at New Mangalore port
As the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) commissioning its single-point mooring (SPM) system
at New Mangalore Port last week, the port's liquid cargo handling has been boosted. Single point mooring is an offshore facility that serves as a mooring point for tankers to discharge their cargoes. For now, MRPL is served by two berths at the port to handle crude oil and petroleum products.
NMPT registers a growth of 12.25% in cargo
In the first five months of 2013-14, the New Mangalore Port (NMPT) recorded a growth of 12.25 per cent in cargo handling. The port handled 15.76 million tonne of cargo from April-August as against 14.04 million tonne in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal (2012-13). Crude oil and coal contributed to the growth in port's cargo handled during the period, said the port's Chairman P Tamilvanan.
New Mlore Port to build 4th berth, invites bids
The New Mangalore Port has called a tender for a fourth berth. The port had added two additional berths in 2006 and 2011 and one more is under completion. Two warehouses are also are under construction in the port. The draft of 14 mtr has also been made available, said P Tamilvanan, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust on August 15. He added that the cargo handling at the port has increased.
