Thirteen foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals, worth Rs 1,258.53 crore, were cleared recently by the Union government. The FDI proposals include request to invest Rs 755 crore by Shantha Biotech acquired by French company Sanofi Aventis.

Two proposals of highways in Maharashtra are to be taken up by the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) very soon. The two proposed highways involve a cost of Rs 2,500 crore.
Govt okays 17 FDI proposals of Rs 992.61 cr
The Union government has approved Rs 992.61 crore valued 17 proposals of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The approvals have been made based on the recommendations of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in its meeting held on last July 29, 2013, the government reports said September 3.
Govt okays 18 single brand retail FDI proposals till May
Between April 2010 and May 2013, the Union government approved a total of 18 foreign direct investment proposals worth $173 million in the single brand retail sector, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma told the Lok Sabha on August 20. Of these proposals, the government approved five proposals in the sector worth $137.68 million during the first two months of the current fiscal, the Minister added.
Odisha gets Rs 1,068 cr worth road works under PMGY
The Union Ministry of Rural Development's Empowered Committee has sanctioned proposals worth Rs 1,068 crore to Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGY). However, the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has asked the Odisha government to pace up the implementation of infrastructure projects in the state. The State required a quality of roads, the committee also stressed.
Centre okays 16 FDI proposals worth Rs 1,646 cr
The Union government on June 18 stated that it has cleared 16 foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals worth Rs 1,646.87 crore. Based on the recommendations of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in its meeting held on May 10, 2013, the government has approved the 16 proposals of FDI. The largest money flow of Rs.961.74 crore is related to acquisition of stakes by foreign promoters in Chennai-based Vijay Television.
Nod to develop 471 km highways at Rs 4,618 cr
Four proposals to widen a total of 471 km of highways have been approved by the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The proposed road works require an investment of Rs 4,618 crore. The projects are Jabalpur-Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Demow-Bogibil, Jorhat-Demow and Numaligarh-Jorhat.
Proposal to build 2 road under bridges remains on paper
Four years after holding public hearings, the Tamil Nadu State Highways DepartmentÂ’s proposals to construct two road under bridges (RUBs) to replace level crossings in Chennai's Annamalai Nagar and Wimco remain only in paper. Thiruvottiyur residents are irked over inordinate delay in taking up the RUB work which would cut down travelling time for the people living in western parts of the locality.
