To help industrialisation in West Bengal, the State government will improve road connectivity by widening nearly 4,000 km of State highways, said the State Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee. Widening of around 1,000-km State highway is likely to be completed this year, he added.

State highways in Odisha to be developed at Rs 3,000 cr
Odisha is to repair its State Highways at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore in the next four years. The State government has started process for tenders for road works of 381 km in the first phase at a cost of Rs 633 crore. The government has come out with ‘State Highways Development Programme (SHDP), a new scheme for the purpose. Under the plan, the government aims to double lane all the State Highways within 12th Five Year Plan with an estimated investment of Rs 3,000.00 crore.
Rs 157 cr for road repairs in West Bengal
The 127 civic bodies in West Bengal were allocated Rs 157 crore by the State government for repair of major roads in the state. The allocation is keeping in view of the ensuing Durgapuja in the state. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is also included in the civic bodies for the allocation.
Kerala plans port at Vizhinjam, expects nod from Centre
For a proposed port at Vizhinjam in Kerala, the State government is awaiting the Central government's green signal, said the State Ports and Fisheries Minister K Babu. Near the famed tourist sport Kovalam, the Vizhinjam port has been planned by the State government.
HC asks govt to appoint experts to monitor hydel projects
The High Court of Himachal Pradesh has asked the State government to ensure appointment of expert professionals to supervise and monitor hydel projects for protection of fragile ecology of the state. Whie granting permission to the companies concerned, the government should impose a condition of appointing the professionals to monitor construction of hydel projects during their construcitn, the bench said.
Rs 76 cr to repair damaged roads in Ernakulam district
To repair roads within three weeks in Ernakulam district in Kerala, which were damaged in the recent heavy rains, the State government has decided to provide Rs 76.15 crore, said the State Works Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju on August 19 in Kochi.
PWD to maintain Murikkumpadaom-Belbo University Raod
In Kerala, the State government's Public Works Department has been entrusted the maintenance of
Murikkumpadaom-Belbo University Raod at Elamkunnapuzha, near Kochi. The State government took the decision by taking the failure of the local authorities to maintain the road. Even the State Human Rights Commission had complained in this regard. The PWD has estimated the cost of restoration of the road at Rs 1 crore.
NTPC Darlipali project in Odisha is acquiring land: Govt
The Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M Scindia told the the Rajya Sabha recently that the upcoming Darlipali Project (2x800 mw) in Odisha is in the process of land acquisition by the State government. The process of environment and forest clearance of the project as well as its linked Dulanga coal mine from Ministry of Environment of Forests (MoEF) is also in progress.
Alternative route to NH-2 in Manipur’s Mahai lambi
In Manipur, the State government plans to develop an alternative route to National Highway No 2 in Mahai lambi (ML). In this regard, the State Works Minister Kh Ratankumar inspected ML on August 11. The NH No 2 passes through Mayang Imphal, Wabagai and Kakching Lamkhai. The matter of developing an alternative route to NH was also raised during a meeting of Chief Ministers and Works Ministers of North Eastern states held in Guwahati recently.
UP to invest on infrastructure projects
Of the total plan outlay of Rs 69,200 crore for Uttar Pradesh in 2013-14, the state government plans to spend more than 20 per cent on upgrading economic infrastructure.
