In Odisha, implementation of road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are getting delayed and the Union government has expressed concern on the same. The Union government is also worried over the quality of the construction work of the roads under PMGSY. This has been conveyed to the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh through a letter.

CPI demands govt to revisit gas price formula
Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded the Union government to revisit the Rangarajan price formula of natural gas produced by Reliance Industries (RIL) in KG-D6 block as the production cost for RIL is just Rs $2.74 a million Britiesh Thermal unit (mBtu). CPI added that the Rangarajan pricing formula of $8.4 an mBtu would give RIL a windfall gain. The Rangarajan formula is applicable from April 2014.
Govt asks NHAI to drop slow-progress projects
The Union government has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to review all its languishing projects and identify those projects that can be terminated on contractual grounds, so that they can be bid for all over again. Several of NHAI projects awarded in recent years are either stranded midway or have been complete non-starters.
Govt takes up modernisation of airports
The Union government, as part of its modernisation and upgradation of airports has constructed new terminal buildings of airports at Kolkata, Chennai, Ranchi, Raipur, Puducherry, Bhubaneshwar and Jaisalmer (Civil Enclave), said the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, KC Venugopal in the Lok Sabha on August 22.
Nod given to Kannur geenfield airport project: Minister
The Union government has granted 'in-principle' approval for setting up of a greenfield airport at Kannur in Kerala. The project is to be implemented on Build Own and Operate (BOO) model, said the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, KC Venugopal in the Lok recently.
Centre clears Rs 1.1 lakh cr big ticket infra projects
In a big relief to investors, the Union government has cleared big-ticket investment projects worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The projects were held up for years for want of several government clearances. The clearances relate to 18 power projects with a generation capacity of 15,500 mw, four highway projects worth Rs 4,400 crore, and a Rs 1,200-crore steel plant in Odisha.
Govt okays 18 single brand retail FDI proposals till May
Between April 2010 and May 2013, the Union government approved a total of 18 foreign direct investment proposals worth $173 million in the single brand retail sector, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma told the Lok Sabha on August 20. Of these proposals, the government approved five proposals in the sector worth $137.68 million during the first two months of the current fiscal, the Minister added.
Hazira ports plea to Centre to double its capacity
The Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority (GZMA) has recommended to the Union government the proposal of Hazira Port (HPPL) to double LNG terminal capacity to 10 mmtpa. The Authority has recommended in this regard to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) for its clearance. HPPL, is a joint venture between Shell Gas BV-(Shell) and Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France-(Total). Shell holds 74 per cent in the joint venture.
Gujarat gets about Rs 1000 cr for rural road project
The Union government has cleared about Rs 1,000 crore for Gujarat to take up rural road works. Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has conveyed this to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 970 crore to the state for building 919 rural roads. The State government will have to spend about Rs 22 crore as a matching expenditure.
Govt to spend Rs 430 bn on green energy corridor
The Union government plans to spend Rs 43,000-crore on ‘green energy corridor’ project to facilitate flow of renewable energy into the national grid. Germany is to assist India in the project with € one billion as soft credit.
