Over the Union government's excessive delays in giving regulatory clearances to its five key oil and gas projects worth $7.5 billion Reliance Industries has flagged the attention of special cell of the Prime Minister-led Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI). If approved, these projects have the potential to produce about 30-40 million standard cubic metre per day (mmscmd) of gas, increasing the country's output by about 25 per cent in the next 4-5 years, industry executives said.

Govt hikes fuel prices, but Moily seeks more hikes
The Union government has hiked petrol prices by Rs 2.35 a litre and diesel by 50 paise a litre (excluding State levies) on the evening of August 31. A further raise could be on the way as per the indication of the Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily. Though he did not indicate the quantum of hike, the wide expectation is that the companies are pitching for an increase of almost Rs 3-5 a litre for diesel, PDS kerosene Rs 2/litre and domestic LPG Rs 50/cylinder.
Nod to Reliance, its partners to invest $4 bn in D-6 block
The Union government has on August 29 gave its approval to Reliance Industries and its partners to invest $4 billion in the R-Series gas-field of KG-D6 block. BP Plc and Niko Resources are the Reliance Industries partners. R-series is a cluster of four discoveries in the block, of which, D-34 has been declared commercially viable.

Govt okays RIL-BP’s plan to invest $3.18 bn in KG-D6 block
A plan of Reliance Industries and BP has been approved by the Union government to invest $3.18 billion in R-series gas field in the KG-D6 basin in Andhra Pradesh, which is expected to produce up to 13 million standard cubic metre gas, said the government and industry officials. As per the approved plan, the field is estimated to hold about 1.2 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas reserves.
Govt takes up port modernisation at Rs 12,000 cr
The Union government has taken up modernisation and expansion of 43 port projects at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore to add about 220 million tonne capacity to the ports. This was stated by the Union Minister of State for Shipping Milind Deora in THE Rajya Sabha on August 29. The capacity of all major ports was 744.91 million tonne per annum (MTPA) as on March 31, 2013.
Centre may hike diesel prices after Parliament session
Citing the depreciating rupee, as a matter of concern, the Union government is likely to increase diesel prices at least by Rs 3 a litre after the end of monsoon session of Parliament next week. Rs 5,000 cr needed to restore roads & bridges in U’khand
To restore the washed out roads and bridges in Uttarakhand, the Union government has been urged by its Road Ministry to provide Rs 5,000 crore. On June 17, flash floods had washed away many vital road links and thousands died in the natural calamity. The Ministry has estimated to restore the road network in the next three years.
Govt clears Rs 1 lakh cr infra projects
The Union government on August 26 cleared Rs 1 lakh crore infrastructure projects which include projects under shipping and ports sector. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh headed Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) has also asked the departments concerned to remove the bottlenecks for the projects within a month.
Govt may rope-in ONGC, OIL to extract shale gas
State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India (OIL) may be roped in by the Union government to explore shale gas in onland blocks held by them under nomination, giving them an edge over rivals who can start the hunt only after auction of blocks, whose date has not been announced yet. Shale gas is non-conventional natural gas found in non-porous rocks and requires fracking technology for its extraction, similar to the extraction of gas between coal seams in India.
