Centre leapfrogs Uttarakhand govt on roads construction
The Central Government will directly spend about Rs.12,000 crore to rebuild roads on Char Dham and Hemkund Saheb pilgrim routes in Uttarakhand which were damaged during the 2013 floods, adversely affecting the tourism business in the state, a union government official said. The project will be completed in the next four years.

JICA loan to Uttarakhand forest project
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has approved a loan of about Rs 674 crore for a forest project in Uttarakhand. The loan at a concessional interest rate of 0.30 per cent carries a repayment period of 40 years with a grace period of 10 years.
BHEL wins order
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured Rs 125 crore contract for setting up a 120 MW hydro electric project in Uttarakhand. The order for setting up of hydro generating sets and associated electro-mechanical works for the 120 MW Vyasi project
Uttarakhand project gets MoEF clearance
A 300-MW hydroelectric power project in Uttarakhand received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The project is located in the Upper Yamuna River Basin in Dehradun district. It will produce 612.93 million units of electricity every year. The project will also provide drinking water, water for irrigation, and water for industrial use.
India identifies 73 key roads along China border
For construction of roads along the China border, Indian government has identified as many as 73 roads as strategically important. Out of the 73 roads, 19 roads measuring 440.74 km are in Uttarakhand, Union Defence Minister A K Antony told the Lok Sabha on December 17.
