In Uttarakhand, the State Planning Commission has proposed 99 km of all-weather roads with as many as 14 tunnels that would reduce distance and save precious time for travelers. In the state, the Himalayas are bleeding after the last June flash floods, which killed many and washed away properties.

Uttarakhand gives high priority to road repairs
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out repair and maintenance of roads in the state. The prolonged monsoon and heavy rains caused extensive damage to the roads and now as the monsoon had come to an end, the maintenance and repair of roads should be taken on priority, the Chief Minister said.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released an additional amount of Rs 58.77 crore for immediate restoration of damaged national highways (roads or bridges) in Uttarakhand.
Rs 5,000 cr needed to restore roads & bridges in U’khand
To restore the washed out roads and bridges in Uttarakhand, the Union government has been urged by its Road Ministry to provide Rs 5,000 crore. On June 17, flash floods had washed away many vital road links and thousands died in the natural calamity. The Ministry has estimated to restore the road network in the next three years.
Road connectivity in U’khand to be restored in two months
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is working towards re-linking the Uttarakhand with the rest of the country and is hopeful of providing full connectivity to the Kedarnath shrine by September, the Union department Minister Oscar Fernandes. The restoration work has started but there are stretches where the entire road has been washed out, where new roads have to be build. This may go beyond one or two months, he added.
BRO strives to rebuild roads in flood-hit U’khand, Himachal
In Uttarakhand, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is striving to rebuild the roads in flood affected areas. BRO is continuing with its efforts of opening the road network in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. BRO has pressed in to service about 130 excavators and bulldozers. Despite bad weather BRO has kept open both the main axis i.e. Rishikesh to Uttarkashi and Rishikesh - Joshimath – Govindghat in Uttarakhand.
Govt to seek assistance to rebuld infra in Uttarakhand
Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has decided to seek external assistance from the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) like Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank for rebuilding of damaged infrastructure in Uttarakhand. Loans from the MDBs would be passed on by Government of India to the state of Uttarakhand as 90 percent grant and 10 percent loan, since it is a special category state
Rs 300 cr sought to restore road links in Uttarakhand
The Union Highways Ministry has sought Rs 300 crore from the government for immediate restoration of road network in the flood devastated Uttarakhand. The cost of permanent work will be assessed later. The two worst affected stretches - Rishikesh to Mana and Rudraprayag to Gauri Kund - need Rs 30 crore each for immediate repair, according to an estimate submitted by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to the highways ministry.
