The construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is going to be ready on time, within the stipulated time. Pakistan was bound to purchase gas from Iran by January 1, 2015. Despite a number of hurdles the Pakistan government was committed to complete the project within the stimulated period, Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told the National Assembly, the lower house of the Palistan Parliament.

However, the minister said under the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, Pakistan is just a buyer and no investment had been made by it in the project.

Pakistan government was working on a number of projects to overcome the oil and gas shortage in the country. The programmes include enhancement of indigenous gas production‚ import of gas from Iran and Turkmenistan‚ import of LNG from Qatar and promotion of LPG air mix. Pakistan had entered gas purchase agreements with Iran and Turkmenistan and work for completion of the projects was under way, the Minister said.
