In Karnataka, Udupi city will be provided drinking water supply from Varahi river and a dam will be constructed in Saligrama town panchayat limits. For the purpose, Rs 450 crore has been set aside under the phase two of Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (KUDCEMP), said the State Urban Development Department and district in charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
He said the Varahi project will be realised at the earliest and progress review meeting will be held every month.
The Minister was chairing a progress review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) at zilla panchayat hall in Udupi on August 12. He also said that Agumbe Ghat Road that connects Shimoga with Udupi district will be converted into a national highway and a proposal to this effect has been considered by Union minister of road transport and highways Oscar Fernandes.
