Gearing up to fulfill his commitment of bringing an end to traffic jams at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, a key highway stretch to south Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Shah on March 27 got widening work started, an official spokesman said. He said the DDC directed to take up the widening work in the Sempora stretch, which witnesses frequent traffic jams.
The DDC confirmed that the work has been started adding that the relocation of shops coming in way of the highway widening would also be taken up soon. Given inconvenience faced by people traveling down the highway to south Kashmir, Shah said the administration could not wait for the entire stretch to get cleared for widening by way of relocation of shops.
Just two days back he had chaired a high level meeting seeking an immediate end to the traffic mess. Shah who is known for his bureaucratic skills, has assured that people will feel the difference within two months.
