The Britain India Infrastructure Group (BIIG) was launched in UK to facilitate the development of infrastructure in India with the involvement of senior officials from both sides and the major private sector players in infrastructure development.
According to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the BIIG has been formed at an opportune moment, when India was taking stock of its infrastructure investments during the 11th Plan period and is gearing up to almost double it during the 12th Plan. Infrastructure has been the key to sustaining economic momentum and the high growth has increasingly stressed physical infrastructure, including electricity, railways, roads, ports, airports, and water supply and sanitation, all of which already suffer from a severe deficit.
