Industry players in the power sector demanded the union oil ministry to form a common natural gas price pool for core sectors such as power and fertilisers.

They also asked the ministry to raise the domestic supply of natural gas for power plants by diverting 6 million standard cubic metre per day (mscmd) of gas being supplied to the non-core sector and reserving the new finds of 10 mm scmd for the power sector.

These demands were made by the representatives of the Association of Power Producers (APP)— including Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani, GVK Group Chairman GVK Reddy— when they met Union oil Minister M Veerappa Moily.

Moily assured that he would raise the concerns of the industry with the empowered group of ministers (EGoM).

It is learnt that the minister may move a note for the consideration of high powered ministerial group to change priority of allocation of the fuel. It may be noted that power projects worth Rs 36,000 crore are at risk because of unavailability of natural gas.

Earlier, the EGoM had said fertilisers and liquefied petroleum gas were priority segments for KG-D6 gas, as production dropped to an all-time low this month and supply to 25 power plants stopped.
