IndiGo Raises Fares as ATF Costs Surge

IndiGo said the move was driven by sustained volatility in ATF prices, which have risen over 14 per cent month‑on‑month to levels among the highest in a decade.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by fleet and market share, will be raising fares on domestic and international routes due to continuously rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs.

The Gurugram-headquartered airline announced that revised fuel charges will apply to all new bookings made after 0001 hrs on October 6, 2026. IndiGo said the decision was prompted by sustained volatility in ATF prices, which have climbed more than 14 per cent month‑on‑month, reaching levels among the highest in the past decade. With fuel accounting for a significant share of operating costs, the increase is reshaping cost structures and network economics across the industry.

On domestic routes, passengers will now pay an additional ₹375 for flights up to 500 km, ₹600 for flights between 501 and 1,000 km, and ₹900 for journeys of 1,001 to 1,500 km. For longer domestic sectors, the charge rises to ₹1,150 for flights between 1,501 and 2,000 km, and ₹1,300 for flights above 2,000 km.

International routes will see steeper adjustments. Travel within the SAARC region will attract a charge of ₹1,000 for flights up to 500 km and ₹3,000 for longer distances. Journeys to Southeast Asia, the Gulf and Middle East, and North and East Asia will carry a uniform charge of ₹5,500. Flights to Africa will incur a charge of ₹6,000, while Europe‑bound passengers will pay ₹10,000.

IndiGo emphasised that while offsetting the full rise in fuel costs would have required a sharper increase, the airline has opted for a measured adjustment to minimise the impact on customers. “IndiGo regrets the additional burden these revised fuel charges may place on its customers. However, the decision reflects the sustained increase in operating costs and the evolving market environment,” the airline said in a statement on Monday.

Despite the pressure of rising costs, IndiGo reiterated its commitment to affordable, convenient and consistent travel.
