In Kerala, the Guruvayur Infrastructure, a joint venture company responsible for toll collection and road maintenance on the Mannuthi-Edappally stretch of the National Highway has hiked the toll rates being charged from motorists at the Paliyekkara toll plaza in Thrissur on March 27. The toll hike has taken place despite strong public protests.
As per the revised tariff that came into effect on March 26 midnight, heavy vehicles including multi-axle vehicles have to pay more to get through the toll plaza when compared to light commercial and goods carriers. Earlier, the fees for goods vehicle was Rs 95 per single trip and Rs 145 for return trip (within 24 hours), which has now shot up to Rs 105 and Rs 155 respectively.
