Production of hot metal and crude steel by Tata Steel expanded 14 per cent to 8.85 million tonne (mn t) and 8.13 mn t during 2012-13, the company said in a press release.
During the year, the firm achieved 14 percent growth in the output of saleable steel at 7.94 mn t. The company posted 13 per cent growth in sales at 7.48 mn t in the last fiscal, led mainly by over 20 per cent rise in sales to automotive sector.
The release said the company witnessed its best ever performance in hot metal, crude steel production and total sales during the year.
In 2011-12, the company posted 7.75 mn t. 7.13 mn t and 6.97 mn t output in hot, crude and saleable steel respectively.
In Jan-Mar 2012-13, the company sold 2.26 mn t of steel, registering a growth of 27 per cent over 1.77 mn t in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal.
During the quarter, the firm’s hot metal production grew 25 per cent to 2.45 mn t over 1.95 mn t in the corresponding year-ago period.
Crude steel output expanded 26 per cent to 2.29 mn t against 1.83 mn t in the last quarter of 2011-12.
