Measures are being taken to speed up the development of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Replying to questions in the the State Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram, the Excise and Ports Minister K Babu, who also handles the airports portfolio, said on June 24 that steps were being taken to shift the existing domestic terminal and solve the problems faced by the passengers.

Kerala government is examining a recommendation submitted by the District Collector and the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Development Society (TRIADS) for renewed administrative sanction for providing 18.92 acre land as suggested by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The Chief Minister Oommen Chandy denied that TRIADS was defunct.

There were reports that the delay in giving a fresh lease of life to TRIADS, formed in the 1990s, had hit the Phase III development of the Airport. This has hit the establishment of the domestic terminal and ancillary facilities next to the new international terminal inaugurated in 2011.
