Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) requested the state government to clear all its town planning (TP) schemes in a time-bound manner to enable planned development of the city.

There are 128 TP schemes for the city of Surat that are on different stages of implementations. Of these, only 28 received the final approval so far and 30 are on preliminary stage. Further, 60 are on sanctioned draft TP scheme stage, 7 on draft submitted to government stage and 3 on draft stage.

The state government recently approved three more preliminary TP schemes, thereby taking the number of final TP schemes to 28 from 25.

The corporation expects the state government to clear 10 more TPs before the year end. As the final approval for TP schemes for Udhna (TP2) , Bhestan (TP21 ) and Pal (TP14) have come, now SMC will be able to collect Incremental charges (IC) from the plot owners of these TP schemes, reports indicate.

All round development of any urban area or city is dependent on approval of TP schemes as this gives the civic body the right to develop basic infrastructural facilities like road, light, Sewerage, water and others.
