Ennore Port agreed to handle automobile exports cargo of Japanese auto major Nissan Motor India at a concessional rate for a period of 10 years.

According to an agreement signed by both the parties, the port gave Nissan concessions in the wharfage up to 60,000 units per annum at the rate of 0.36 percent per unit.

The port also gave free parking space for the first 15 days and priority in handling of automobile units in the port.

The agreement is valid for 10 years and can be terminated by both parties with a notice of 3 months from either side.

But the agreement is subject to cancellation if the export of automobile units of Nissan or Renault is found through any sea port other than EPL or Chennai Port either in part or in full, a statement from the company said.

Ennore Port and Nissan had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2008 to export its vehicles to various countries.

The port is providing with a special berth space of 140,000 square meter for parking vehicles and will give Nissan the priority to use the newly developed marine facilities. The berth that is under construction will begin operations shortly.
