Citing adverse effect from pollution, TDP leader and former minister Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy opposed any move to transporting coal by road from the general cargo berth in Visakhapatnam Port.
At a press conference, Murthy opposed the transportation of coal by road stating it would bring back the pollution.
He said this would negate the installation of green terminal in the outer harbour.
They said following the AP High Court ruling in a writ petition filed by Vizag Sea Port in which Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited impleaded itself the proposal would now go the AP Pollution Control Board for its approval.
They said the board meeting should not give approval for any such move and if necessary should fight it legally as it was the boardÂ’s duty to prevent pollution.
The high court had ruled that following the amicable settlement of the issue between the two parties and the respondent Visakhapatnam Port Trust the interim arrangements are to continue pending completion of the dredging operations in the inner harbour.
