National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) decided not to raise the price of iron ore lumps and fines for September considering slackness in demand.

Thus, the firm would continue to sell at the current price of Rs 4,200 a tonne of iron ore lump and Rs 2,510 per tonne of fines.

Iron ore lumps are of a higher grade, with Fe content of 63-65 per cent. Fines are of lower grade, with Fe content of less than 60 per cent.

Meanwhile, the company is in the process of raising its total production capacity to 40 mn t by 2014-15 from the present 32 mn t per annum. The state-run miner has mines in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.
