The 127 civic bodies in West Bengal were allocated Rs 157 crore by the State government for repair of major roads in the state. The allocation is keeping in view of the ensuing Durgapuja in the state. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is also included in the civic bodies for the allocation.
The State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim said in Kolkata on September 12 that the department needs a dry span of at least ten days to repair major roads before Durgapuja. Out of Rs 157 crore additional allocation, Rs 71 crore was from Municipal Area Development Fund, Rs 28 crore from his departmentÂ’s share of Vehicles and Trade Tax and the rest Rs 58 crore from the State Finance Commission, the Minister said.
Hakim said that it is very difficult to continue with repair works if rain continues. Hakim also said that tender had already been done to begin the repair works of the Kalyani Expressway, which would be upgraded to six lane highway.
