The Centre has cleared three key projects in Kerala. They are: Re-development activities and the two-laning of Alappuzha bypass and two-laning Kollam bypass and
the proposed Vizhinjam international container transshipment terminal by Vizhinjam International Seaport.

Now the three proposed key infrastructure projects will be considered for environmental clearance by the expert appraisal committee (EAC) nominated by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF).

Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala had been urging the MoEF to look into the projects urgently, especially the port project.

The port officials will present the master plan and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report in front of the Expert Appraisal Committee on September 21. The Vizhinjam international seaport project is set to become the biggest transhipment container terminal in the country, expanding its berthing capacity for vessels up to 18,020 TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units).
