Facing shortage of funds for road works, the Kannur municipal body is to seek funds from the Kerala Public Works Department. The municipal body wants to take up Rs 28 crore pipe-laying work which is expected to take six months. After the pipeline work, the road repair would cost around Rs 26 crore. But the municipality has no fund to repair the roads.
Hence it will approach the PWD minister next week to get the sanction of funds required. Roads to lay the new drinking water pipeline has proved a new headache for municipal authorities, as the condition of most of the roads here have now become worse.
The civic body, as part of the pipe-laying works, will dug up 146 km of roads in the next six months. If measures are not taken soon, matters will be worse during the northeast monsoon which starts this November.
