The annual coal imports of the country could jump by about one-third to more than 200 million tonne (MT) for the next few years after the Supreme Court ruling that will halt mining of the resource by most private companies from next year. The apex court has scrapped 214 coal blocks allocated by the government over the past two decades after ruling that the selective allocation process was arbitrary and illegal.
