Extreme heat and humidity levels pushed up Delhi´s peak power demand to an all-time high of 6,260 MW on June 30.
The demand on June 30, reached at 3.29 PM, puts behind the previous record of 6,188 MW, that was recorded last month on May 20. However, demand came down later in the day as pre-monsoon showers drenched the city.
Delhi Tranco Limited (DTL) officials said the demand may go up to 6,500 MW if the present weather conditions persist.
´The demand for power in Delhi is almost double the demand of Mumbai and three times Chennai and Kolkata respectively. The demand of the entire North-East region is also less than half of the demand of Delhi,´ DTL said. The state transmission utility also hit out at discoms for not paying dues amounting to Rs.2,000 crore.
