Unsafe are the roads of the number one Smart City in the country. With a spurt in incidents of dangerous and reckless driving, the roads of the capital city have turned into death traps.
Besides vehicular mishaps, cases of pedestrians falling prey to careless driving are on the rise. Bikers, particularly youths, zoom around in the city at breakneck speed even during rush hours, having little scruples or feelings for the safety of commuters and pedestrians.
´These bikers have become a continuous nuisance. They race on the roads without fear of law. Accidents due to dangerous driving have become a regular affair in the city which used to be a safe place to move around,´ said Somnath Kar, a retired scientist. Traffic policing seems to have become a subsidiary affair for the police.
