Kochi airport posts 17.8percent growth in passenger traffic

Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has registered 17.8 per cent growth in overall passenger traffic in 2016 compared with the previous calendar year. The cargo traffic growth during the period was nearly 16 per cent.
Air AsiaÂ’s direct service to Thailand and the introduction of more frequent flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru resulted in the increase in passenger traffic, said a press statement issued by the entity.

The passenger traffic in 2016 stood at 87,36,061. Of these, 37,64,640 were domestic passengers and the rest international. In 2015, the total number of passengers was 74,16,053.

Of this, 30,03,497 were domestic passengers and the rest international.
On the cargo front, CIAL performed well in 2016, registering an overall cargo carriage increase of 15.6 per cent.
The volume grew to 85,339,10 tonnes from 73,849,20 tonnes in 2015. Of the total cargo moved through the airport, perishable cargo constituted 58,261 tonnes
