On Wednesday, the Karnataka state cabinet gave administrative approval for the detailed project report (DPR) of Raichur greenfield domestic airport at Rs 185.57 crore. Rights India Ltd was in charge of preparing the DPR.

According to the media, the Cabinet has decided to commute the sentences of 114 prisoners serving life sentences in various state prisons. Based on their good behavior, they were granted a sentence reduction.

The Cabinet also approved a budget of Rs 51.20 crore for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Smart Agriculture on the campus of the University of Agriculture Sciences-Dharwad.

It also approved the revised estimate of Rs 99.93 crore for the construction of the Ramanagara district hospital. It also permitted an extension of the term of the Karnataka Lokayukta’s Special Investigation Team, which was formed to investigate illegal mining.

The Cabinet also approved a Rs 26.06 crore plan to supply drinking water to the Dharmasthala temple and town, as well as a revised estimate for constructing a market complex in Surathkal for Rs 76 crore.

The upgrade of Raichur’s airstrip to a minor airport has been proposed. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) granted technical approval in May 2021 for the construction of a 1,800-meter long runway suitable for ATR-72 sized aircraft, as requested by the Karnataka State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIDC). A total of 402 acres of land will be set aside for the airport’s development.
