Alstom, in consortium with Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), bagged a contract worth more than $414 million by the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) to install a 1,000 MW variable speÃÂed pumped storage hydro power plant on the river Bhagirathi in the state of Uttarakhand. It will be India's first pumÃÂped storage power plant to use variable speed technology. Alstom will supply four 250 MW variable speed turbine and generator units and other equÃÂipÃÂment inclÃÂuding main inlet valÃÂves and control and protection systems.
