Alstom, in consortium with Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), bagged a contract worth more than $414 million by the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) to install a 1,000 MW variable speÂed pumped storage hydro power plant on the river Bhagirathi in the state of Uttarakhand. It will be India's first pumÂped storage power plant to use variable speed technology. Alstom will supply four 250 MW variable speed turbine and generator units and other equÂipÂment inclÂuding main inlet valÂves and control and protection systems.
