BEST will be replacing 0.3 million electricity metre of low-end residential consumers and 0.1 million high-end users with hi-tech smart metres with an estimated cost of Rs 2.38 billion. The proposal was made before Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission and a note was circulated to the committee members at a BEST panel meeting. From a centralised server, the new metres will be able to collect real-time information of any metre and this will help in studying the daily consumption patterns. Following Colaba- Cuffe Parade, the metres will be installed in phases in other parts of Mumbai.
