BMW targets 20 per cent electricity from solar

BMW AG- German luxury carmakers- intends to meet 20 per cent of its electricity needs from solar power at its factory in India by the end of 2016, according to Robert Frittrang, the managing director of the factory near Chennai.

The Munich-based company will seek bids to build a solar farm in the first quarter of next year, when the successful bidder can install panels on top of the plant. It currently gets six per cent of its electricity from rooftop solar cells in Chennai.
