Union government's plan to constitute Port Advisory Committees for major ports has been opposed by a section of trade union workers in the country's port sector.
Essar Ports to invest in Vizag port
For development and operation of three iron ore berths at Visakhapatnam Port, the Essar Vizag Terminals has entered into an agreement with the Visakhapatnam Port Trust. It is to invest Rs 1,200 crore in the project and to be developed on a build-own-operate basis over 30 years. With a combined capacity of 23 million tonne the three berths (two outer harbour berths and one inner) will have a combined capacity of 23 million tonne per year.
Hike in THC at Vallarpadam
Operator of Vallarpadam port in Kerala, DP World has decided to hike the terminal handling charges (THC) from 1 January. Hence shippers in Kochi will have to shell out more to move their goods. The Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) has allowed the international container transhipment terminal to increase THC by 3.48 per cent. DP World stated that the proposed hike would be according to the TAMP directive, which approved a 3.48 per cent increase in tariff charges for five years.
Green nod to Vizhinjam Port
Vizhinjam port project received the mandatory environment and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The MoEF, while giving clearance for the Rs 4,010-crore project, has stipulated 29 specific and 14 general conditions to be abided by the port authorities. The state government has already floated global tenders for constructing the port.
Pipavav Port expansion plan
An Environment Ministry panel has reportedly cleared a proposal to develop and modernise facilities at the Pipavav Port in Gujarat. The port works would cost an estimated Rs 1,100 crore. The expert appraisal committee examined the proposal at its meeting held previous month and recommended clearance. The project is likely to significantly boost cargo handling capacity at IndiaĂ´s 1st private sector port.
Australian nod to GVK for port work
For its Abbot Point port capital dredging programme, GVK Power and Infrastructure has received the Australian governmentĂ´s approval. The Australia government has finalised the ministerial environmental approvals for its Galilee basin coal assets and associated infrastructure.
India targets 2,493.10 MTPA port capacity
The capacity of Indian Ports was 1,245.30 million tonne per annum (MTPA) at the end of 11th Five Year Plan. The target is to increase the port capacity to 2,493.10 MTPA by the end of the 12th Plan with the major ports accounting for about 50 per cent of this capacity. In 2013-14, 30 projects have been targeted for award involving an additional capacity of 282 MTPA with an investment of Rs 24,959 crore. As on 30 November 2013, 13 of these projects have already been awarded entailing an investment
Vizag Port to expand at Rs.641crs
The Visakhapatnam Port is to take up expansion and development works worth Rs 641 crore. The port is to take up as many as eight berths for capacity augmentation and modernisation through public-private partnership (PPP) operators. Visakhapatnam Port has awarded the project to dredge the outer harbour approach channel, outer turning circle; ore berth area, general cargo berth approaches, and construction of mooring dolphin at ore berth at an estimated cost of Rs 139.88 crore to International Sea
Adani Ports begins to handle liquid cargo at Hazira
In Hazira port in South Gujarat, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone private Limited (APSEZ) has initiated handling of liquid bulk cargo. The company's subsidiary Adani Hazira Port Pvt Ltd (AHPPL) has been handling the cargo, the company said.
