The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport has resented over Kerala government's disinterest in the road projects of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the state. The Kerala Government is neither interested in funding road projects through the public-private-partnership mode, nor wants to take up projects, the Committee said. The Committee stated this in Delhi in the context of problems in acquiring land for construction and widening of roads.

BMC takes initiative to tell other agencies to repair roads
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken initiative to make other civic/State government agencies like MMRDA, Mhada, MSRDC to take repairs and fill potholes immediately on the roads the respective agencies are maintaining. The BMC's move comes after it faced flak for potholes on roads that belong to these other agencies. BMC has now decided to notify police stations about which agencies these roads belong to.

Brifen ropes to be installed on more spots on Pune e’way
To make travel safer for motorists on Pune-Mumbai Expressway, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is to install Brifen wire ropes at a few accident-prone spots of the 95-km-long expressway. A pilot project for the same expressway was carried out in March this year, along a 2.5 km stretch at Kamshet. It was a success. Now MSRDC plans to use the wire rope along the entire 95-km-long expressway.

The damaged roads in Jaipur will be repaired by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) from 15th of next September. JDA is to take up a total length of 2,500 km roads for repair in the city. While the JDA will repair 1,000 km length of roads by itself, repairs on the remaining 1,500 km will be given away to contractors.

NHAI drops highway projects worth Rs 4,000 cr
As the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) could not acquire land required for road construction, it has scrapped highway projects worth Rs 4,000 crore in Goa and Kerala states. Referring the NHAI's inability to build the 4,000 crore highways, the Federation of National Highway Builders said that a new land acquisition law for public purpose has to be implemented and coordination between NHAI and State governments should be more.

India, China to tie-up to cooperate in road sector

There is a great need for the Kochi Corporation and the Kerala government to begin the land acquisition process for the development of Goshree-Mamangalam Road in Kochi as a corridor parallel to Banerjee Road.
