Centre clears 1.1 lakh cr big ticket infra projects
In a big relief to investors, the Union Government has cleared big-ticket investment projects worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The projects were held up for years for want of several government clearances.
East-West Corridor project
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Sarvey Sathyanarayana said the four laning of the entire length of East-West Corridor has been completed except 195 km under implementation and 232 km balance for award.
DMIC faces roadblock
Some sections of the Maharashtra government oppose land acquisition for the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) citing strong opposition from the locals. Reports indicate that for implementing the DMIC project, 75,000 acre land is needed.

The travails of motorists on Jaipur-Gurgoan highway
According to media reports and public complaints, the under construction flyovers on the 240 km Jaipur-Gurgoan highway have turned a nightmare to motorists. The highway has flyovers under construction every third km. NHAI charges around Re 1/km, about Rs 240 as toll. And this is going for the last so many years and the highway is getting worse, especially developing numerous potholes in this rainy season.
Kerala PWD resumes road works in Kochi
The Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) has resumed resurfacing of roads in Kochi. PWD had abandoned the road patching works before the monsoon and now again it has taken up the work as the monsoon is coming to an end. Priority has been given to restoring roads within the city limits. Potholes on roads in the suburbs would be filled within a fortnight, said the PWD engineers.

In Kochi, steps have been taken to repair damaged roads including the Edappally-BTS Road and Vennala -Arakkakkadavu-Edapally Road, State Public Works Department (PWD) told the Kerala High Court. The PWD told this to the high court in an affidavit filed in response to a petition filed by Shine Joseph of Thattampadi and MK Pratheesh of Koonammavu against the failure of the government to repair roads in various parts of the State.
