The Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) has resumed resurfacing of roads in Kochi. PWD had abandoned the road patching works before the monsoon and now again it has taken up the work as the monsoon is coming to an end. Priority has been given to restoring roads within the city limits. Potholes on roads in the suburbs would be filled within a fortnight, said the PWD engineers.

Repairs taken up on damaged roads in Kochi: PWD
In Kochi, steps have been taken to repair damaged roads including the Edappally-BTS Road and Vennala -Arakkakkadavu-Edapally Road, State Public Works Department (PWD) told the Kerala High Court. The PWD told this to the high court in an affidavit filed in response to a petition filed by Shine Joseph of Thattampadi and MK Pratheesh of Koonammavu against the failure of the government to repair roads in various parts of the State.

An empowered committee has been formed to ensure better coordination between various departments for implementing a project to improve 1,700 km of roads across Tamil Nadu in a time-bound manner.
Kerala to conduct survey of 14 railway overbridges
The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 42 lakh to its Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCKL) to conduct survey and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of 14 out of the 15 railway overbridges (RoBs), sanctioned by the Railways this year.
Work resumed on Kanjiram bridge in Kottayam
In Kerala's Kottayam, work on the much-delayed construction of the Kanjiram bridge is now paced up with as the land acquisition procedure by the State Revenue Department has begun. On August 27, the department has begun the valuation of the land to be acquired. The department has been asked to complete the land acquisition within six months.
Parliamentary body asks Kerala to give land for h’ways
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport has resented over Kerala government's disinterest in the road projects of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the state. The Kerala Government is neither interested in funding road projects through the public-private-partnership mode, nor wants to take up projects, the Committee said. The Committee stated this in Delhi in the context of problems in acquiring land for construction and widening of roads.
BMC takes initiative to tell other agencies to repair roads
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken initiative to make other civic/State government agencies like MMRDA, Mhada, MSRDC to take repairs and fill potholes immediately on the roads the respective agencies are maintaining. The BMC's move comes after it faced flak for potholes on roads that belong to these other agencies. BMC has now decided to notify police stations about which agencies these roads belong to.
Repairs soon to Gurgaon-Jaipur highway
The Union Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have said that repairs would be taken up on Gurgaon-Jaipur highway soon. The Minister said that he had already travelled on this stretch twice since he took over charge.
Brifen ropes to be installed on more spots on Pune e’way
To make travel safer for motorists on Pune-Mumbai Expressway, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is to install Brifen wire ropes at a few accident-prone spots of the 95-km-long expressway. A pilot project for the same expressway was carried out in March this year, along a 2.5 km stretch at Kamshet. It was a success. Now MSRDC plans to use the wire rope along the entire 95-km-long expressway.
