In Bihar, foundation has been laind for a new 552.3 km road on porous Indo-Nepal border and when completed it would help security personnel of Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) to guard the border more effectively. The foundation was laid by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at Supual on June 25. Boost to highway expansion as govt eases green norms
The Union Cabinet on June 27 cleared a proposal that will allow the construction of highways of up to 100-km length and 40-m width without seeking an environment clearance. So far, environment clearance was mandatory for building any highway stretch that was over 30-km long and more than 20 metre wide.
Goa govt tenders 4-laning of Ribandar bypass road
The Goa Public Works Department (PWD) has tendered the project for four-laning the Ribandar bypass road starting from the Panaji-Merces junction to the Ela junction in Old Goa. The project involves four-laning of 9.7 km stretch of the NH 4-A and the government has sanctioned the project for an amount of 126.1 crore.
Bangalore’s six key roads to be widened, improved
The Karnataka government is to widen and improve six important roads in its capital Bangalore. Hence commuters from the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) can hope for a smooth ride to the central business district as the government to improve and widen the Hebbal flyover on a priority. J&K rural road network to get Rs 710 cr
For development of rural roads in Jammu and Kashmir the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 25 announced Rs 710 crore additional grants. The sum is for land acquisition for expansion and upgradation of rural road network in the state. Singh made the announcement after a meeting with the Council of Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir during which he reviewed the progress of various development projects, especially the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme.
BRO to repair highways damaged in flood
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) would focus on repairing and restore the damaged highways in areas badly-affected by flood in Uttarakhand. After reviewing the damage caused to roads, including the strategic ones being built along the border with China, in the flash floods in Uttarakhand, Defence Minister AK Antony asked the BRO to carry out their repairs within the earliest possible time-frame
Bad roads trouble C’atore commuters at busy junction
In Coimbatore, the Ramanathapuram Junction bad roads are bothering the commuters. The Trichy Road stretch at the Junction was cut across by a trench-like structure to take an underground drainage pipeline to the southern end of the Road. It was closed two days ago, thanks to repeated complaints from the area residents and road users. Upon turning south on to the Nanjundapuram Road, the road user encounters a narrow stretch, made narrower by parked vehicles on the southern side.
Govt to study widening of Mysore-Bangalore highway
The Karnataka government is considering widening the 140 km Mysore–Bangalore stretch into six-lane owing to the high density of traffic on the highway, Minister for Public Works HC Mahadevappa has said. The traffic volume on the highway soared on holidays, with the density being nearly 70,000 passenger car units a day.
