Govt to study widening of Mysore-Bangalore highway

The Karnataka government is considering widening the 140 km Mysore–Bangalore stretch into six-lane owing to the high density of traffic on the highway, Minister for Public Works HC Mahadevappa has said. The traffic volume on the highway soared on holidays, with the density being nearly 70,000 passenger car units a day.

Poonamallee road in Chennai to get wider bridge

The Tamil Nadu Highways Department plans to build a new and wider bridge across the Cooum near Ampa Skywalk on Poonamallee high road at a cost of 8 crore. The new bridge will be broader than the road and make traffic flow smoother. The Highways Department has floated tenders for the construction of what will be the third 'high level bridge' over the river. The bridge, at road level, will be at a height of 9.5 m from the riverbed and will be 47 m long.

UP faces fund shortage for its rural road project

The Uttar Pradesh government had earmarked Rs 2,125 crore for construction of roads under the Ram Manohar Lohiya Samagra Vikas Yojana in 1,598 villages in 2012-13. But now the government has scaled down the amount to just Rs 391 crore because of lack of funds, said a senior official in the State Panchayati Raj Department. And even out of the 391 crore, only Rs 100 crore has actually been released for the purpose so far, said the official.
