Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 1,299 crore to Karnataka to build rural roads. This has been conveyed by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Karnataka gets Rs 94 cr for Shiradi Ghat road repair
The Shiradi Ghat road stretch on Mangalore-Bangalore national highway in Karnataka will become motorable before the next monsoon if the work on the stretch goes as per the plan. The Union government has sanctioned Rs 94 crore for the road project.
Nod to Kollam, Alappuzha bypass road in Kerala
On a cost-sharing basis between the Kerala and the Union governments, work on the Kollam and Alappuzha bypass of the NH 66 will be taken up on on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode. Tenders for the work were finalised by the National Highway wing of the Public Works Department (PWD).
Elevated road to link Eastern Express H’way with BKC
The process is to begin shortly to construct an elevated road connecting Bandra-Kurla Complex and Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that in another month or so they will commence the process of inviting bids to construct the bridge linking the Eastern Express Highway and LBS Road to Bandra-Kurla Complex, the key business district of Mumbai.
Kargil’s Nun Kun base camp to get a road link
To develop Nun Kun base camp in Kargil as an international tourist destination, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) has initiated measures. And as part of the task, LAHDC's executive council on December 8 visited base camp of Nun Kun peak.
BBMP yet to implement Road History project
With an objective to bring transparency in the road related works, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) proposed the Road History project two years ago, but the project has not yet been implemented so far. The project was planned after the fake bills scam surfaced two years ago in the Palike.
Mumbai-Ghatkopar Freeway phase II to be ready by Feb
In Mumbai, the second phase of the Eastern Freeway project, connecting south Mumbai to Ghatkopar, will be ready by next February. Currently, girders are being launched at the Ghatkopar end of the Freeway.
Road proposed in Bangalore scrapped
The Karnataka Muzrai Department has scrapped its plan to construct a road in Bangalore, which would have drastically shrunk the Vasanthapura kalyani (temple tank) in the city. Local residents had opposed the road project, which would result in shrinking of the Vasanthapura kalyani (temple tank).
NHAI to award road projects for 1,600 km
Under the Engineering, Procurement and Contract (EPC) route, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to award road projects of over 1,600 km in the next few months. It sends an indication that in the road sector the momentum is picking up again after sector had been under pressure till recently.
Litigation stalls work on NH-1 in Punjab: Govt
The stretch of National Highways (NH-1) between Shambhu and Amritsar falls in the jurisdiction of two projects namely Panipat to Jalandhar and Jalandhar to Amritsar, said Sarvey Sathyanarayana, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a reply to a question in Lok Sabha on December 9.
