When will my city become smart? This is the question that I am sought to respond to very often. The name 'Smart Cities Mission' should be renamed 'Smart Area Mission' as no city under smart cities will turn smart as per the funding provided under the mission but only an area will receive focused attention in its transformation.

With all the glitter and shine, India's newly-found tech hub, Telangana, hosted the country's smartest conclave ever - SMART URBANATION from March 22to 23, 2018.
We can raise Rs.60-70 billion monetising our land
We have already started working on most of the projects that were conceived under the smart city proposal, whether it is area-based development (ABD) or pan city development.
We are implementing projects worth Rs.20 billion
Our city was ranked fourth in the first smart city challenge. We are also part of the 20 lighthouse cities in round 1. From March 2016, we have started implementing projects. Since then, we have covered a lot of ground and almost 95 per cent of the work order for the projects have been released.
We are implementing projects worth Rs.22 billion
We have a number of projects in the pipeline. We are trying to start with smart buses, which will run inter and intra-city.
Rs. 6 trillion Master Stroke
This Union Budget came against the backdrop of a raft of reforms, economic slowdown and fiscal stress. While the Budget proposals will incrementally contribute to economic expansion with its de facto elements of stimulus, the pace of growth will largely be due to factors outside the Budget.

As I write this, our Prime Minister is already in the UAE, making his second trip in less than three years, to accelerate the infrastructure thrust that the two countries have agreed upon.
Utilities space to witness significant disruption
Utilities will have to take intelligent decisions in terms of providing, managing and sustaining themselves in the wake of copious amounts of data that get generated by smart grids of the future. Analytics will play a fundamental role in grid asset maintenance and optimisation.
Surveillance for safer & smarter cities
Emplacing the manifesto for cooperation between authorities, civil bodies and technology providers, the Smart Cities Council India (SCC) and Western Digital on July 28, 2017 held a round table conference session on 'Role of Video Surveillance Systems in making cities safer' which brought alive the current state of surveillance security in India, the challenges and sustainable solutions to help urban planners understand the framework of a smart city and take steps to improve infrastructure.
