Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would sign a general consultancy agreement with Kerala Monorail Corporation for the Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode monorail projects, which may together cost Rs 5,581 crore.
Of the total project investment, Rs 3,590 crore would go for Thiruvananthapuram project and Rs 1,991 crore for Kozhikode project. DMRC would get 3.25 per cent of the total investment value of Rs 5,581 crore as consultancy fee.
The monorail projects would be implemented through
Kerala Monorail Corporation, which is a special purpose vehicle set up by the state government.
DMRC would be responsible for design; preparation of bid document; short-listing and selection of contractors; supervision, and quality certification for the monorail projects.
The Thiruvananthapuram project involves setting up a 22.2-km elevated mass rapid transport system between Technocity and Karamana. For Kozhikode, the length of the corridor is 14.2 km between Government Medical College and Meenchantha.
The state government expects to complete the projects on schedule as it does not anticipate any issue in land acquisition.
In Thiruvananthapuram, the requirement was 17.170 hectare. Of this, 13.75 hectare was government land; 0.58 hectare with Railways; and 2.820 hectare with private parties.
