DP World to sign concession agreement with JNPT

Following the resolution of environment issues, DP World would sign concession agreement with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) for setting up a 800,000 TEU container terminal.

The Rs 1,000 crore project was awarded to DP World in October last year after the firm agreed to share 28.09 per cent of the revenue with JNPT.

However, signing the concession agreement was delayed because of some environmental issues. The project would be implemented by Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal, a new company constituted by DP World. The project involves construction of a 330-m berth in JNPT.

DP World, majority owned by the Dubai Government, is the biggest container port operator in India, handling more than 40 per cent of the countryÂ’s container volume through its five terminals at JNPT, Mundra (Gujarat) Chennai, Kochi and Vizag.
