Dinesh Chandra Garg, well known for administrative acumen and astute leadership in mining industry in India, holds the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Western Coalfields (WCL) since 1 May 2007.
Garg is BSc (Hons) and MSc in Geology. He also holds PG Diploma in Sales and Marketing Management, PG Degree in Industrial Relations & Personnel Management. In pursuit of corporate excellence, Garg has attended a short course in General Management from Ashridge Management College, UK during 1992 and Executive Development Program at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA, in May 2009.
As Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Western Coalfields and a Government Director in the Board of Singareni Collieries Company, Garg holds impact on the nationalised coal sector in India. He was also the permanent invitee at Coal India Board for last five years till 23 April 2013.
As member of Executive Board at Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), Council on Public Sector Enterprises, Confederation of Indian Industry and National Expert Committee on Energy, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Garg has been a guiding force on the issue of augmenting energy resources for development of Indian economy.
He has visited UK, US, Canada, France, Australia, Egypt, Jordan, Czech Republic, Germany, China, Thailand, Cambodia and Far East countries in official and personal capacities and also widely travelled in India. He represented Indian coal industry in an Indian delegation to South Africa in February 2013.
Garg has galvanised WCL as a company which has maintained appreciable growth in coal production, excelled in corporate governance, earned consistent profit, performs better than previous best every year and at the same time maintained sustainability of environment, physical as well as social.
