Govt undertaking measures to modernise ports

With the view to boost exports, the government is undertaking several measures to modernise ports. The government started construction of new berths and terminals along with expansion and upgrades for berths. Other measures taken include installation of new and modern cargo handling equipment; deepening draught in ports to handle larger vessels; installation of Vessel Traffic Management System for smooth movement of vessels; implementation of Web-based Port Community system; and conducting benchmarking study for upgrading the existing ports to the international standards.
