Indofast Energy, a joint venture between Indian Oil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) and Sun Mobility, has announced a strategic partnership with Hala Mobility, an EV‑as‑a‑service platform focused on decarbonising India’s logistics ecosystem. The collaboration is positioned as a pivotal step in accelerating electric mobility adoption, offering seamless, high‑uptime energy solutions for fleet operators and gig‑economy workers.
The partnership has already scaled to 15,000 vehicles in under a year, validating the operational viability of the swappable battery model for high‑utilisation delivery operations. These vehicles are currently deployed across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai.
“As we scale toward 40,000 vehicles by March 2027 and 100,000 by 2028, we are building the kind of integrated ecosystem that will define India’s commercial EV transition, making swappable battery EVs the most practical and profitable choice for last‑mile logistics,” said Rajat Malhan, Chief Business Officer, Indofast Energy.
Srikanth Reddy, Founder of Hala Mobility, added, “Partnering with Indofast Energy allows us to integrate our fleet with robust battery‑swapping infrastructure, ensuring riders experience zero downtime and maximum daily earnings.”
For delivery riders and fleet operators covering 80-100 km daily, the two‑minute battery swap directly boosts earnings and productivity. Combined with up to 40 per cent lower running costs compared to petrol, the model offers strong economic appeal for India’s growing gig workforce.
Indofast Energy has established itself as a key enabler of sustainable urban mobility through partnerships with leading OEMs and fleet operators. Its network of 1,900‑plus swap stations across 24 cities supports over 120,000 vehicles, enabling more than 2 billion km of clean mobility and avoiding over 97,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
