The Kandla Port Trust (KPT) has said Kandla has been recognized as Sea Port of the Year for Non-Containerized Cargo for North India at the recently-concluded 6th Northern India Multimodal Logistics Awards 2015. Ravi M Parmar, Chairman, KPT, received the award from PG Nair of EXIM India in New Delhi last week. Kandla Port has been India´s top cargo handling facility for the past many years. It had handled 87.005 million tonnes (MT) of cargo in 2013-14. With a number of infrastructure augmentation and expansion plans ongoing and lined up, the port is well on its way to reach the 100 million throughput mark and emerge as a global hub in the region, he said. The port created history by handling 87.005 MT of cargo for the sixth year in a row by attaining the mark in 2013-14. It utilize 90 per cent of its cargo handling capacity of 96.62 MT and developed India´s largest tank farm storage facility.
