In a move that would add 42 million tonne capacity to Tuticorin port, the union budget 2013-14 announced the Rs 7,500 crore project to set up an outer harbour.

The Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced while presenting his eighth budget on February 29. The minister also said a new port will come at Andhra Pradesh.

Three Southern states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka will develop Chennai-Bangalore corridor, which houses major industrial units.
