Sensing and control technologies major, Omron, has launched the first-of-its-kind Total Tamper Detection Solution, to address concerns of power theft in the electricity sector. Positioned as a revolutionary offering for smart energy management, the solution was unveiled at the India Smart Grid Week 2016, in New Delhi. The solution comprises a technologically advanced security sensor, made by Omron, positioned in a smart meter. Conceptualised in association with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), the solution is envisaged as a milestone in enabling the Smart Grid initiative of the government.
Transmission and distribution (T&D) losses remain one of the major concerns for India’s power sector.
As per varied industry reports, the country ranks 5th in the world in terms of installed capacity. However, over 300 million people lack access to electricity. This is directly linked to T&D losses (about 40 per cent of the total production).
Vinod Raphael, Country Business Head, Omron Electronic and Mechanical Components in India, said, ‘Omron’s security sensor for smart meters is multi-functional, imparting unique artificial intelligence to the meter by detecting all kinds of tampering’.
Omron also exhibited other key electronic components for smart meters and varied electrical equipment, making them safer, energy efficient, compact and better in performance. Notable solutions for smart supply and saving of energy featured panel builders’ solutions and real-time automated applications for manufacturing sites. Concepts for PV inverter and solar pump were also on display.
